Best Video of the Year: Wintersleep's "Amerika"

wow! this gave me the chills! its lyric depth waxes poetic, and with the added imagery and symbolism it packs a punch... stunning, beautiful, sad, especially juxtaposed with the Trump speech on the TV at a climactic point. plus, it's nice to see meaningful rock these days. nice analysis here.

Prince was an icon of the 1980s. Anyone who was in high school and/or college during that time would find him a prominent part of the soundtrack of the times, and for those who were older, like parents, he was probably far too risqué or outright raunchy. He was definitely eccentric--weird even--but never, never boring. He was also incredibly musically prolific, so it's hard to pare down a short list of his music. Frightened Rabbit's New Album

Frightened Rabbit's New Album "Painting of a Panic Attack" is just out, and already there are two instant standout tracks. The Scottish band has always dealt with darker themes, but there is also something transcendent and hopeful there as well. "Get Out" and "Woke Up Hurting" are exemplary in both senses of the word.
